Applications Engineer

This position will be responsible for sales and technical support for defined products within the Buehler range of instruments. Work with the Sales and Applications teams to improve effectiveness through demonstrations, customer application assistance, technical studies and general support as well as competitive analysis. Provide Buehler expertise and specific product support including set-up, installation and customer training. Become the key contact for technical support.


Job Responsibilities:

    Technical Product Support

  • Provide technical product & sales support to customers and Sales team on all Buehler’s product family.
  • Identify opportunities for providing value-added Application solutions to customers.
  • Assist customers with technical concerns, product recommendations and applications support, via phone, e-mail, online demonstration and visits.
  • Work with the Sales team to identify key customers and create appropriate product demonstration strategies.
  • Work and coordinate with Buehler Sales Engineers on installations and customer training. Instruct customer on best practice; comprehensive hardware and software operation of Buehler equipment; specific applications according to customer need.
  • Review complex proposals / orders for technical suitability and configuration, and can assess alternative solutions to suit customer needs.
  • Provide ongoing support to existing customers as required.
  • Customer Training/Education Support

  • Provide training to customers, distributors and Sales team members via email, phone and in-person visits.
  • Work with customers to coordinate on-site demonstrations and training sessions. Assist in the creation and facilitation of seminars, workshops and exhibitions. Attend technical conferences.
  • Generate application papers and technical notes for use by customers to enhance the Buehler image in the market.
  • Help identify and document competitive advantages in specific application and market niches.
  • Assist in the production of technical sales tools, application-focused presentations and product videos.
  • NPD and Marketing Support

  • Evaluate existing and new products and processes to determine competitive position and development opportunities.
  • Participate in the development of new methods/solutions and products.
  • This position is reporting to Current Application Engineer.


Job Requirement:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Engineering or related field from an accredited university.
  • 3+ years of experience working with test systems or mechanical testing systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of selling techniques and customer service skills an advantage.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Mechanical aptitude including troubleshooting /diagnostics a strong advantage.
  • Comfortable working in a variety of environments including office, laboratory and production.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks, provide training for colleagues and customers / distributors.
  • TOEIC score 600 or equivalent required.
  • Proven working knowledge of MS Office products.
  • Domestic travel to customer sites and exhibitions, including overnight stays, is required up to 50% of the time. International travel may also be required on occasion.
  • Required to lift to 50 lbs. and sit / stand for periods of 2-4 hours.
